Hi a need help with bangkok, Thailand areas?

Hi I am traveling to bangkok and I notice when I was trying to book the hotel that bangkok is divided by areas, so I will like to know which is the best area to stay. I will like to stay in an area that is near shopping malls, restaurants, clubs and all these kind of places so if some body can help me and tell me which area is better (Dusit, Downtown Siam Square, Din Daeng, Sukhumuit Road, Silom Sathorn, Yaowarat (Chinatown) and old city).
