Do Latin lyrics sound better that those in English?

We're singing Faure's Requiem and my choir director prefers the Latin over the English lyrics because they "sound" better. She notes Latin has fewer (5?) "vowel sounds". Of course we have only a vague idea of what we're saying. Of course she is primarily an instrumental, not choral, musician. Your thoughts?
